Prof. Yan Xiaodong, Ph.D.

Working in: Beijing, China

Position:
Professor of Ecology and Global Change Science, Institute of Atmospheric Physics

Regions of Interest:
East Asia, Far East, China

Research:
Modeling the impacts of climate change on forest ecosystems, emphasis on hydrological, nitrogen and carbon cycle and forest growth effects. Yan Xiaodong is a forest ecologist. His original research interest is population ecology because he was a mathematical under-graduate student. After becoming a master student, he began studying simulation of forest ecosystem, its carbon balance and succession. He has developed and tested models of carbon cycle(physiological model), growth and succession(gap model) of northeastern China forests. Since 1991, his research interest changed to global change science, and he began working on response of northeastern China forests to climatic change. Recently, he extended his model application area to the Far East Russia Region.

Yan Xiaodong is Professor of Ecology and Global Change Science and the Director of the Key Laboratory of Key Laboratory of Climate-Environment for East Asia at Institute of Atmospheric Physics, Chinese Academy of Science, Beijing, China. He worked in Changbai Mountain forest ecosystem research station in Northeastern China for 10 years, received his Ph.D. in Forest Ecology from Institute of Applied Ecology, Shenyang, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1997. In 1998, He moved to his current institute and worked as a post-doctor researcher, associate professor and professor. He serves on the editorial board of Chinese Atmospheric Sciences as a standing member and the Scientific Steering Committee of IGBP-iLEAPS as a member. He has authored 35 publications in peer viewed scientific journals.
