SAVANA

In July 2002 in Maputo, Mozambique, the University of Virginia entered into a consortium with four universities in southern Africa. SAVANA (Southern Africa-Virginia Networks and Associations) represents educational and research interests between:

Eduardo Mondlane University, Mozambique

University of Witwatersrand, South Africa

University of Botswana, Botswana

University of Venda, South Africa

University of Virginia, Charlottesville

SAVANA Consortium MOU

University of Venda - University of Virginia MOU

While the initial focus was on regional environmental issues, SAVANA researchers have since expanded the research interests to include projects in public policy and health. Faculty from the University of Virginia's Digital History, Anthropology (Hanan Sabea) and Health Sciences Departments have joined the Center for Regional Environmental Studies as Center Collaborators.
